1939 Tohoku School of Pharmacy established
1949 Tohoku Pharmaceutical University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences established
1959 The Cancer Research Institute opened
1962 The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master’s Course) established as the first one in a private pharmaceutical university in Japan
1964 Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Doctoral Course) established as the first one in a private pharmaceutical university in Japan
1965 Department of Pharmaceutical Health Sciences established, and integrated into the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
1971 Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry established, and integrated into the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
2002 Received permission to increase the fixed number of students to be admitted into the master’s course from 10 to 30
2005 Tohoku Pharmaceutical University selected as a High-Technology Research Center by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
2006 Under the new pharmaceutical education system, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences reorganized and divided into the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (a 6-year program) and the Department of Pharmaceutical Life Sciences (a 4-year program)
The Cancer Research Institute reorganized as the Institute of Molecular Biomembrane and Glycobiology based on new subjects of research
Tohoku Pharmaceutical University selected as an Academic Frontier Promotion Center by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
2007 Agreement for academic cooperation with University of Calabria the Faculty of Pharmacy Italy signed
2008 Student hall, Library and Center for Information Science opened
2008 Agreement for academic cooperation with Uppsala University Sweden signed
2008 Agreement for academic and educational cooperation with Sam Ratulangi University, Indonesia signed
2009 Central Building (Offices and Classrooms) completed
2009 Tohoku Pharmaceutical University selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science, and Technology on the Program for Promoting University Education and Student Support.
2009 Agreement for academic and student exchange with Natong University, China signed
2010 Agreement for academic cooperation with University “Magna Graecia” of Catanzaro the faculty of pharmacy Italy signed
2010 The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master’s course) opened
Tohoku Pharmaceutical University selected by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport,Life, Science, and Technology on the Strategic Research Foundation Grant-aided Project for Private Universities
Agreement for academic and student exchange with National University of Mongolia signed
2013 Tohoku Pharmaceutical University Hospital established
2014 Tohoku Pharmaceutical University selected as a university to establish a new department of medicine for the first time in 37 years in Japan
2016 Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University opened
Tohoku Pharmaceutical University Hospital changed its name to
     Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital
Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University’s Wakabayashi Hospital established
